The Kalendar Band History

On the 2nd of March 2016 we lost our older brother Peter, he is always with us. Sadly missed.

The Kalendar band was formed in May of 1973 consisting of 3 brothers, Peter, Hus, and Roy Sali, and family friend Herby Bayer Jnr.      Their music covers a broad spectrum, you name it and they'll try and play it. Their forte is naturally enough, OOM PAH PAH, incorporating a floorshow consisting of Traditional Bavarian folk dancing Cowbells, Swiss Alp Horn, Yodeling and audience participation.

The Kalendar Band the only German Band to appear on Big Brother, The Big Day Out, Australian Idol,The Jill and Agro Show and various TV adds. Roy and Hus appeared in the Cadbury Chocolate TV add in 2012, Peter and Hus appeared in the Le Snack TV add in 2011

2019 was the 35th consecutive visit to Emu Park for the annual Lions Oktoberfest.

2018 and 2019 toured to Japan again adding Hitachi, Aomori, and Sendai to their already busy schedule including Kanazawa and Yokohama.

In 2017 they toured to Japan 3 times, Kokura, Shizuoka, Kanazawa, Hiroshima, Omiya, and Yokohama. Emu Pk

In 2014 they toured twice to Japan, Yokohama, Hiroshima, Kanazawa and Sendai. Emu Pk Roy and Hus performed at the Taste of Melbourne festival in November. In 2014 the Emu Park Lions club celebrated their 30th Oktoberfest. The Kalendar Band has performed at all except the first one.

In 2013 they toured twice to Japan in May and in September October, taking in Saitama, Osaka, Tokyo, Hiroshima, Sendai, Yokohama. In October they performed for the 29th consecutive year at the Emu Park Lions Oktoberfest. Over that time more than $1.5 million has been put back into the local community.

In 2012 they toured Japan 3 times in the year culminating in the super Oktoberfest at The Tokyo Dome. 50,000 people each of the 3 days enjoyed their entertainment. It was so successful Bon Jovi had to cancel his planned concert. In April 2012 performed at the first Yokohama Spring Oktoberfest, an amazing success.

In October 2011 The Kalendar Band performed with Woho and Reinhard at the Yokohama Oktoberfest at Akarenga. More than 120,000 guests came along over the 17 day festival. Have a look at what happened, go to Youtube and search Yokohama Oktoberfest 2011. In May The Kalendar Band peformed in Dafeng Port in China and also Yes pub in Dafeng.

The annual Golden week in Japan 2008 saw the band return, also on this tour recorded a CD with Wolfgang Hoelzle. Also in May, Hus and Peter became the oldest entrants to qualify for the 2nd round of Australian Idol, wonders never cease.

In September 2008, they won the award for the best entertainment in Sydney restaurants for the 3rd time in 5 years. In October 2008, they won the National award for the best entertainment in Australian restaurants. On 1st November 2008 The Kalendar Band received the Neil Williams Esteemed Member Award in recognition of dedication and service to the community. Presented by Lions International Emu Park.

In 2007 a 2 week tour to Japan was also sold out. In September 2007 they toured again to Japan for Oktoberfest at Aton Palace and Huisten Bosch Theme park near Sasebo Nagasaki.

2006 toured to Japan and Xian China.

2005 they toured to Japan and Singapore.

In Januray 2004 The Kalendar Band and Heidi performed at The Big Day Out on the Gold Coast, and joining them in the show were members of The Black Eyed Peas.   After 14 years and 4 months The Kalendar band finished performing at the Bavarian Haus restaurant on February 13th, and from February 22nd started performing at the Lowenbrau Keller at The Rocks in Sydney. Due to The Kalendar Band, The Lowenbrau won the Best Entertainment Award for Sydney 2 years running, 2004 and 2005.

June 2003 they performed in Osaka and Tokuyama Japan.

February 2002 they toured to Tokyo, and in June appeared on the very popular TV reality show Big Brother.    

February 2001 saw their first tour to Japan, they performed in Tokyo at the Happo-en center and the Wunderbar Restaurant. Touring with them was Heidi the yodeling Queen. In March they went to Japan again to open up the Tokyo German Village, and in May again to the Tokyo German Village for Golden week. During the 2 trips to the German Village they appeared on all major Japanese Television stations.

Their first tour to Hong Kong was undertaken in November 2000 playing for the FAAA Ball at the Convention Center.

In 1994 The Kalendar Band, Hus, Peter and Roy were inducted into the Bavarian Haus "Hall of Fame"

In October of 1989 The Kalendar Band became resident at the world famous Bavarian Steakhouse Surfers Paradise

October 1988 the single "The Chicken Dance" was released,it received radio and TV airplay especially on the Jill and Agro TV show where they also appeared.

January of 1988 they performed at the Ultimate Event at Sanctuary Cove, also appearing were, Frank Sinatra, Whitney Houston, and Peter Allen. Also in 1988 they opened the Munich Festhaus at World Expo 88, the only Australian based German Band to perform.

1987 the Sanctuary Cove Resort and Brewery were opened, they were a regular feature on Saturday and Sunday afternoons until 1993

1985 Resident at the Munich Steakhouse (previously Bavarian) in Brisbane

From early 1981 until the end of 1984 The Kalendar Band were resident on Australia's Premier Resort, Hayman Island

In 1980 the bands first album was released, containing Oom Pah Pah music, parts of their floorshow and sing-along music.

In 1978 the band started at Brisbane's largest Restaurant, The Bavarian Steakhouse, performing there for nearly 3 years working 6 nights a week. Here they perfected their act and built up an enormous following

In 1975 they worked at Peppers Restaurant in Brisbane.

Since their conception Kalendar have toured extensively throughout Queensland playing at major Oktoberfest's supporting local communities, particularly the Emu Park Lions Club Oktoberfest.


Kalendar are Australia's World Famous Bavarian Showband.
